Lisa Wang is a textile artist based in Providence, RI whose practice investigates the tension between structure and fluidity. She received her BFA in Textiles from the Rhode Island School of Design, where she developed a deep engagement with weaving, knitting, and silkscreening as both material processes and conceptual frameworks.
Her work is grounded in the belief that textiles are more than pliable fibers - they are systems governed by rules, precision, and repetition. Over years of study, Lisa has come to see these constraints not as limitations but as catalysts for creativity. She approaches textile-making as a quiet negotiation between her own will and the mechanics of industry, a space where control and compromise coexist.
Through this lens, Lisa’s practice reflects on the emergence of order from both natural and human-made systems. Her textiles embody rhythm, repetition, and structure while revealing subtle disruptions that speak to fragility, adaptability, and possibility. By embracing constraint as a generative force, Lisa continues to explore how fiber can articulate the complex balance between logic and fluidity.
