Ray Swartz (b. 2003) is an artist based between Providence, RI, and Austin, TX. His work engages with the queer archives of his home, tracing the ways personal and collective histories become mediated through image circulation, nostalgia, and the translation between analog and digital forms. Through painting, writing, and installation, Swartz explores questions of legibility — what is seen, recorded, and remembered — and the material and emotional residues left behind in these processes. He is pursuing a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Painting at the Rhode Island School of Design, with a minor in Literary Arts and Studies.

Ray’s work has recently been included in exhibitions at The RISD Museum (Providence, RI), ISB Gallery (Providence, RI), Scanlan Gallery (Austin, TX), and Blackbox Gallery (Portland, OR).
